Over the past 5 months we have been hard at work putting together our Boston Blazers roster. Our game plan was to acquire young and athletic lacrosse players whose best lacrosse is still ahead of them. The result is a roster stacked with talented and tough players that will compete this year and should only get better over the course of the next few. We have acquired a few local players, but have also sought out those who are willing to relocate to Boston for the winter in order to be a part of this inaugural return of the Blazers.

It looks as if we will have around 12 players moving to Boston for the season. I believe it is in our best interest to have the majority of players being local this winter. It should help us spread the word that the Blazers are back along with helping us to establish a real sense of team. Our decisions are guided in part by financial considerations, but that being said we want those players that make our team and are willing to make the commitment to our organization to have a fun and memorable experience in Boston.

We have secured a newly remodeled 5 bedroom house in Boston’s North End that is literally a block and a half from the TD Banknorth Garden! It is not the Taj Mahal or anything. But if the year was 1996 and I was still sleeping on my friend Marshall’s couch in Newton Corner blowing around leaves by day and coaching Mt Ida College by afternoon…I would be totally psyched to be moving into what may someday soon be referred to as the “Blazer Den” for the next 6 months.

What is equally as exciting is that there is a street hockey court a block or so away that if all goes according to plan, should see Blazer pick-up games in the next few weeks. Our tryout and training camp roster is all but locked in at this point aside from a few local prospects. I hate to admit it, but we may have a spot left for a talented and athletic box player who also has his own street hockey goalie pads (aka deck hockey for those of you in Ontario) willing to relocate for the winter. Just kidding…not really.
